I think this is a great example in how the alignment of a chain of unhelpful (and a bit short sighted) people can lead to a massive PR disaster in the online world.

This event happened a while ago but I’ve still come away with a rather negative impression of United Airlines. That’s what a negative viral can do if the original offending event is not acted upon. Not sure how United Airlines responded to the video but I kind of hoped that they came back with a tongue in cheek musical response explaining how they’ve now mended their ways… mmm ok maybe a little far fetched.

But I’ll let you make up your own minds…

View the the song here that humouroulsy paints picture of the events: United Breaks Guitars

Now had the Government asked us for quotes on their various websites, maybe the country wouldn’t be in recession!

If the prices that appear on this Google Docs spreadsheet are to be believed, they splashed out a cool £35 MILLION on the Business Link site alone, including £4m on testing (though whoever trousered those sheets sadly forgot to run it through the W3C validator).

Clearly Dick Turpin is alive, well, and working on Government websites.

How many decent online social-networking alternatives are there to Facebook? Not many.

This could be set to change, as Google is rumoured to be working on a new social-networking service called “Google Me”, to rival Facebook.

Just a rumour? I very much doubt it. Read the full article by Pete Cashmore on cnn.com - “Google building a Facebook rival?

There’s hardly a better way to waste good time than by ‘liking’ things people write on Facebook. Indeed the craze has spread to pretty much any website you visit. ‘Like’ buttons are taking over the world.

So why restrict yourself to just the online world? Head over to The Like & Dislike shop and you can be the proud owner of a real life ‘like’ stamp, thus enabling you to express your love for just about anything in the real world - documents, cars, babies*, you name it.

Needless to say, you can also ‘like’ the actual website too.

* Pepper Digital do not condone stamping babies with ‘like’ stamps, or any other stamps for that matter.

StatCounter, who provide website analytics tools, has today indicated that Internet Explorer 6 usage now represents less than 5% of all web browsers in use. This is based on data gathered over the past month. Furthermore, Internet Explorer 6 has seen a fall in market share of approx. 5% over the past 12 months. This is not only great news for web developers like us, but also for the web users moving away from the browser (which is now almost 9, yes 9, years old!), since it contains many security vulnerabilities, and has extremely poor web standards support.

If like me you’re fascinated by old photos of the streets of London then this this app is worth a look. Admittedly not been able to test drive it yet on the streets but if it does what it says on the tin I’ll be happy!

Streetmuseum gives you a unique perspective of old and new London whether you’re discovering the capital for the first time or revisiting favourite haunts. Hundreds of images from the Museum of London’s extensive collections showcase both everyday and momentous occasions in London’s history, from the Great Fire of 1666 to the swinging sixties.

This is what they say…
